This is a college-prep program offering advanced and college-level coursework for students. This program is only incoming ninth graders in 2012-2013.

You must live south of sunrise boulevard to be eligible for transportation.

Deadline for applying is may 23rd. Requirements are a 2.0 gpa and level 3 on the fcat.
If you applied previously for a magnet, but are interested in this new program, you can also apply.

This year our sixth grade students will be taking the Reading portion of the FCAT on the computer.  All of our students have had an opportunity to practice in the labs, and their teachers have worked hard to prepare them for this new experience.
Testing for the sixth grade will run throughout the two week time frame for the Reading portion.  Because of this we are asking parents to make sure your children are in attendance each day and most importantly that they arrive to school on time.  Please arrange appointments for after the school day ends, and limit sign outs.  If your child wears glasses, make sure they have them with them during testing.

It is important that all our students grades 3-8 get a good night sleep each night and have a nutritious breakfast to get their brain in gear for testing.
Testing should not be a source of stress, rather it is an opportunity to show what you know and have been working on all year long!!
Testing will run as follows:

  • Monday, April 16- Grade 6 Math Sessions 1 and 2, Grades 7 and 8- Reading Session 1
  • Tuesday, April 17- Grade 6 Computer Based Reading, Grades 7 and 8- Reading Session 2
  • Wednesday, April 18- Grade 6 Computer Based Reading, Grades 7 and 8- Math Sessions 1 and 2
  • Thursday, April 19- Grade 6 Computer Based Reading, Grade 8- Science Sessions 1 and 2
  • Grades 3,4,5 testing will run as follows:
  • Monday, April 16- Reading Session 1
  • Tuesday, April 17- Reading Session 2
  • Wednesday, April 18- Math Session 1
  • Thursday, April 19- Math Session 2
  • Tuesday, April 24- Science Session 1 Grade 5

Students received packets in their Reading and Math classes.  All enrichment lessons are assigned homework and will receive a grade.  Please visit our school website for extra credit book reviews that can be completed and turned in to Reading teachers.  If returned by Monday, March 19th, students will receive extra credit for book reviews.  If your child does not have a Reading class, he can turn it in to his Social Studies teacher for extra credit.

As always, we want all Cavaliers to enjoy a safe and fun-filled Spring Break, and please remind them to complete their Spring booklets.
