Magnet Programs

This program is founded on the belief that students possess talents that need to be identified, valued, nurtured, and rewarded. It is the responsibility of educators and parents to identify these talents and provide an appropriate educational program which develops them. Students applying to the Performing Arts Program at Parkway Middle School must meet specific entrance criteria to be admitted. Parkway’s magnet program allows talented, motivated, and dedicated students to reach their full potential through highly specialized instruction.

Students in the Performing and Visual Arts Program at Parkway may participate in an enhanced program focusing on dance, music, theatre, or visual arts. The Performing and Visual Arts Program provides opportunities and services through which students may discover their unique talents. Parkway provides a sequential program in the arts for students entering the middle school level. Parkway also prepares students to actively pursue a continuing education in the arts through the close articulation with the Dillard High School of the Arts.

In all the focus areas students have the opportunity to use “state of the art” material and equipment and receive instruction in specialized areas not available at other middle schools. The instructional program is enhanced by community and professional artists. Our classes are set up for small group and/or individual instruction. Performances such as concerts, theatrical or dance productions, and art exhibits are an integral part of the educational program at Parkway. The Performing and Visual Arts Program is a unique program which generates community pride and involvement.
